Flying During Pregnancy
Travel during pregnancy is fine in a normal pregnancy up until 34 weeks. Some special considerations for air travel are: - Avoid air travel in the last 8 weeks of pregnancy.
- Do not travel to any third world countries!
- Take pillows to keep yourself comfortable during travel.
- While you are seated, rotate your ankles around to keep the blood moving. This will help to prevent blood clots.
Hot Tubs and Pregnancy
The use of hot tubs and saunas are NOT recommended during pregnancy if the temperature is over 100 degrees. This includes hot baths as well! There have been documented complications to a pregnancy when a woman's core temperature has been raised, including neurological harm to the baby.
Hair Color During Pregnancy
It is fine to color, highlight, or perm your hair during pregnancy. However, the texture of the hair changes in pregnancy. Therefore, what you think you are getting may not be exactly the same as it has been in the past.
Seat Belts During Pregnancy
Always wear your seat belt, with the bottom of the belt across your hip bones, not over your abdomen. Always wear the shoulder strap.
Dental Care During PregnancyDon't neglect your dental care during pregnancy! Poor oral hygiene has been linked to pre-term labor. Here are suggestions for dental care: - X-rays are permitted with proper shielding of the abdomen.
- Anesthesia can include Lidocaine with or without Epinephrine
- Antibiotics include Amoxicillin or if allergic to penicillins, you can have Erythromycin.
- Pain medicines include Darvocet N-100, Tylenol #3, or Vicodin.
