HPV and Pregnancy.....Will It Hurt My Baby?
HPV will occur in pregnancy fairly often. In fact, due to the immune system changes in pregnancy, genital warts can grow faster than normal. Problems caused by HPV rarely have any impact on a pregnancy. Therefore treatment can be delayed until after delivery unless the amount of warts is overwhelming. One of the only complications caused by HPV seen in a newborn is wart like growths in the throat. This is extremely RARE. Most of the time, there is no harm done to baby. C-Section does NOT prevent transmission to the baby. The ONLY complication caused by HPV to change the way a doctor cares for your pregnancy would be invasive cervical cancer. Actual cancer, not dysplasia. Refer here for further details about dysplasia. If cancer was diagnosed, the method of delivery (vaginal vs. C-Section) and when the baby should be born (premature vs. term) would be issues to discuss in great detail.
HPV and Infertility......Does HPV Cause Infertility?
HPV does NOT cause infertility by itself. Other sexually transmitted diseases can cause infertility. These other infections, mainly Chlamydia and Gonorrhea can cause the tubes to be damaged, which then may cause infertility. So only if HPV is caught in conjunction with other infections would there be a link to infertility.
